Getting Mobile? Then Ditch the Cell

Cell phones have become a large cause of accidents – minor and major – worldwide. In some countries and several US states, the use of cell phones is banned while driving, and while that may not be the case here, it’s worth noting the reasons for so much concern when it comes to using your cell on the road. When you have an accident, you may see an increase in your PA insurance premiums. Agency representatives can give you more information on how accidents affect premiums. Still, the financial implications are minor in comparison to potential personal injuries.

So, what’s so bad about cell phones in the car? When used while driving, they are a distraction that can cause you to lose focus on the road, and focus is required every minute that you drive. Many people no longer talk on hand sets, preferring to use hands-free kits. While this at least leaves both hands on the wheel so that you can react more quickly to an incident on the road, the reality is that your main focus is still going to be on the voice in your ear, rather than what is happening all around you. Texting is particularly perilous, given that it not only takes one hand off the wheel, but that it can simultaneously take your eyes off the road, as well.

Every driver has a responsibility to ensure that they can control their vehicle. Staying focused is the best way to stay safe on the road. To find out how bad driving might affect your general auto premiums, always feel free to approach your PA insurance agency.
