Any young adult moving out of home for the first time faces a steep learning curve. There’s a lot to discover about the world, beginning with finances. Insurance may seem an unnecessary financial burden at a young age, but there are several reasons why speaking to a PA insurance agency can be a wise move.

Home – Once you move out, your possessions will no longer be covered by your parents’ policy and if you rent, your landlord’s insurance will cover only the building he or she owns and not household contents. Consider the cost of losing your laptop, phone, stereo and TV and you have just a few reasons why home insurance is important.

Car – Purchase a car and you are legally obliged to have insurance. State regulations vary, but in Pennsylvania, you will need medical benefits, bodily injury liability and limited or full tort (other forms of auto insurance can also be useful to cover the cost of repair after collision, or of replacing a vehicle after theft).

Health – In the event that you are studying, there may be a health insurance policy available through your college. After college, most people acquire health insurance through their work, but in some cases you may need to purchase it individually. Always examine the health insurance options thoroughly when you are offered a job.

A key point to note with any insurance policy is that you need to review it regularly and always advise your PA insurance agency when there are any changes in your life that might affect the coverage you need. Looking after your insurance policies will ensure they protect you as they should.
